He manages to get away, though, and steals a car to continue his chase. In the RV, Richie is seen threatening Katie and Scott while hallucinating again, and it really shows the ever-rising tension that is present between every single member of the main cast.
No single character is completely pleased with any other character (even among just the Gekkos or just the Fullers), and this dramatic tension really manages to increase the level of excitement for viewers. Around this time, a flashback by Jacob shows that his wife was the cause for the unfortunate accident that ended with her death, and it is exciting to think about how the kids will react when and if this information ever comes to light.
Richie finally reveals his hallucinations to his brother, but Seth is, typically, uninterested in anything that Richie has to say. He plays along, though, in order to keep Richie as sane as possible for the duration of the trip. The RV manages to reach the border, and Seth tries to figure out the plan for how they’ll get across without being caught. In the back of the RV, Scott manages to pull a secret gun on Richie as Katie is praying with him, and the RV ends up in a pseudo-Mexican standoff as Seth pulls a gun on Scott while Jacob threatens Seth. Jacob resolves the situation with a well-timed fender-bender, Unfortunately, the situation worsens when he’s forced to deal with the other driver.
Without spoiling too much, the gang makes it across the border with some ingenuity and some help from Carlos, and Jacob finally comes clean to his family about what happened with his wife.
